Herbal medicine is one the major components of traditional and contemporary Chinese Medicine. Presently, tremendous efforts have been devoted into the research of effectiveness and safety of herbal compound(s), herbal extractions, and herbal formulas; as evidenced by numerous published studies in vitro, in vivo, and in human subjects.

It’s not so surprising that around 35% of current medications were originated from natural products (mainly herbs). The use of herbal medicine to treat or prevent diseases has been getting more and more scientific rationales.

HERBAL  MEDICINE

Japanese Kampo medicine is a transformed traditional Chinese herbal medicine. Kampo’s “Kan (han)” means “Ancient China” and “po(fang)” means “technique”.  Kampo medicines are government-regulated prescription drugs and currently 148 formulas are listed under the Japanese insurance program. The manufacturing process of Kampo medicines mimics the preparation methods of traditional Chinese Medicine decoction, while the Kampo medicines were made much easier to take and carry utilizing modern pharmaceutical techniques. Also a consistent quality control system has been employed from the supply of crude drugs through to the finished products using GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) guidelines.
